The board of Orissa was incorporated in the year 1953.It provides various courses to equip the students in perceiving education.

Major Functionalities:

• We help in conducting High School Certificate Examinations (H.S.C.E.) and examinations of other courses prescribed by the Board.
• We also help to prepare courses of studies, text books, teaching materials etc.
• We help to publish and distribute/sell text books, syllabuses, lesson notes, work books and other related materials.
• We help to issue certificates of the examinations conducted by the Board and equivalence certificate to the examinations of other State Boards.
• We help to recognize the secondary schools for the examinations of the Board.
• We help to make regulations for undertaking different functions of the Board.
• We help to take care of Secondary Education through Orientation Programmes, Refresher Courses and other academic programs.

Recognisation to Institutions:

• We consider that every recognized institution shall maintain school records in respect of its pupils in such manner and form as may be prescribed by the Board from time to time.
• We consider that an Institution/School which does not comply with the requirements laid down by the Director in so far as they are not inconsistent with the regulations of the Board and the requirements laid down by the Board shall not be recognized or allowed to continue as a recognized institution.
• We consider that the application with the recommendations of the Director shall be scrutinized by the Recognition and Grants Committee and placed before the Board with the Committee's recommendation for final orders.
• We consider that permission be accorded by the Board to proposed High Schools to open Class IX on the basis of the report of the Inspector of Schools.
