The prosthesist and orthotist is responsible to treat the physically handicapped individuals. They help in detecting the malfunctions and abnormalities in the limbs or in the various other body parts of the person. The people suffering from Polio and various body ailments are cured by the prothesist and orthotist. The Prosthetists are responsible to function in the areas of artificial body limbs. The Orthotists are responsible to design and manufacture of orthopedic devices. These medical experts can work with council of members in various health care units. There pay scale depends upon the government, private or public health care standards. There are various post graduation educational colleges and universities that provide and help students to seek education in the this profession.
To become a Prosthetists or Orthotists students should complete their 10+2 with 60% marks . Then they can complete their bachelor’s degree in the medicine. Students should give the entrance examination conducted by various institutes and colleges. The entrance examination depends on the 10+2 syllabus.
These entrance examinations are conducted in the month of June/ May. After the completion of 4 year degree course, students can take their Post graduation in the same discipline. After the completion of both graduation and Post graduation courses, should undergo internship programs in their respective colleges and universities.
The starting salary given to the prosthesist and orthotist starts from Rs 15,000-20,000. It further goes on increasing with the increase in the experience and position.
