The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) conducts the AICE every year to select eligible candidates for admission to the Post Gradudate programmes in Agriculture, Veterinary Science and other science related programmes. Upon successfully clearing the test, candidates can get admission in various State Agricultural Universities, Central Universities etc.

The entrance test questions are based on the subjects of the qualifying degree exams as prescribed by ICAR. The questions are asked from the subjects given below:
The AICE Exam consists of two question papers and each paper has to be completed in three hours. Candidates can select from English and Hindi to appear for the exam. Each question paper is further divided into three sections: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Questions are objective with multiple choice answers. There is negative marking in some sections.
