The Indian Institute of Maritime Studies is an institute governed by the Directorate General of Shipping, India. The institute offers higher education courses spcialising in maritime studies. The institute has three training institutes for three separate disciplines. The institutes are located in Navi Mumbai, Kolkata and Mumbai. Candidates can seek admission to any one based on their interest. The courses are: B.Sc. Nautical Sciences 3 years (Navi Mumbai) Marine Engineering Degree 4 years (Kolkata) Polyvalent B.Sc. Maritime Sciences 3 years (Mumbai)

The eligible candidates are selected to pursue their studies of the desired degree from any of the three training institutes of IIMS, in Navi Mumbai, Kolkata or Mumbai respectively. The admission to these courses will be based on the Joint Entrance Examination organized by the IITs.

There will not be any separate entrance test for the admission. The IIT-JEE qualified students will be called for counseling and interview. There is no separate entrance test for admission to IIMS. Eligibility

The candidate must have cleared the final examination of class XII or its equivalent referred to as the qualifying examination. Candidates appearing for class XII final or equivalent examination in 2014 may also appear in JEE Mains 2014 examination provisionally. Only candidates passing the class XII exam in 2012/ 2013 or 2014 are eligible. Candidates’ date of birth should be on or after October 1, 1989 (5 years relaxation for SC/ST/PwD i.e 1984)


Syllabus

The syllabus for this exam is based on the common syllabi of all the state boards in India and CBSE. Candidates can choose to appear for the exam in English or Hindi.


Pattern

JEE consists of two papers: Paper I & Paper II, and the duration for each paper is three hours.

Paper I is meant for B.E & B.Tech courses, and Paper II is meant for B.Arch courses. Candidates can opt for one or both the papers. Paper I consists of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry sections- the questions in each of the sections are multiple choice objective questions and each question has equal weightage. One fourth of the maximum marks allotted to the question are negatively marked in case of an incorrect answer. For Paper I, candidates can opt for Computer Based Test to give the paper online.

Paper II has Mathematics, Drawing and Aptitude sections. There are multiple choice objective questions for Mathematics and Drawing sections, and in the Aptitude section, candidates have to answer questions based on drawing.

The number of questions in the papers and the maximum marks vary every year.
