Birsa Agricultural University is a public university of agricultural studies, research and learning and is located in Ranchi, Jharkhand, India. The university was formed in the year 1981 by the Government of India and was inaugurated by late Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. Dr. S.M. Prasad is the chancellor and Dr.M.P. Pandey is the vice-chancellor of the university and is affiliated by UGC.
The university is divided in four faculties, faculty of agriculture, faculty of forestry, faculty of veterinary science and animal husbandry and college of bio-technology. It offers undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D programs in agriculture, forestry, agricultural engineering, bio-technology and agribusiness programme. The admission process is done through the common entrance examination conducted by the university. The selection of the candidates are based on their performance in the entrance examination. The university has its own central library which includes, 19,000 books along with 41 periodicals and magazines, 17,519 Indian Journals, 13 computer with printer, 1,682 bound journals, 1,408 thesis, 2 xeroxing machine, 1 TV, 1 duplicating machine and 84 book donated. There are about 11,991 readers who visits central library frequently and about 14,626 books has been consulted by the professors.
Other facilities of the university includes digital library, hospital, hostels, special conference halls, physical facilities, computer centre, visitor accommodation, labs for entrepreneurial development and sports club. The digital library of the university has Krishiprabha e-these, e-books, e-database, statistical information, vidyanidhi, gateway to e-journals, Indian journals, online statistical analysis, e-reference sources and many more reading materials.
