The Central University of Gujarat is an autonomous public Central University located in the city of Gandhinagar, State of Gujarat in India. The University was established by the Government of India, through an act of the Parliament, using the Central Universities Act of 2009. The Central Universities Act of 2009 is now instrumental in creating a new Central University each in the states of Gujarat, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Karnataka, Orissa, Rajasthan, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan. The objective of the University is to advance and disseminate knowledge throughout the state of Gujarat. The University was established on the 3rd March of the year 2009. Professor Raosaheb Kale, was elected as the first Vice Chancellor and the Administrator of the University by the President of India.
The University has various schools and departments to advance their goals of spreading knowledge everywhere. The various schools of the University include, the School of International Studies, the School of Chemical Sciences, the School of Environment and Sustainable Development, Centre for Library and Information Science, the School of Social Sciences, the School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies, the School of Life Sciences and the Centre for Nanosciences. The Central University of Gujarat offers various MPhil or PhD courses in the fields of Economics, Society and Development, Gandhian Thought and Peace Studies, Economics, Diaspora Studies, Society and Development, Hindi Language and Literature, Comparative Literature, Internal Security, Chemical Sciences, Environment and Sustainable Development and Life Sciences. Additionally the University also offers various courses for Master of Arts, Master of Science and other certificate courses.
