The Central University of Jammu is an autonomous, public, Central University located in the state of Jammu and Kashmir in India. The University was established by an Act of the Legislature passed by the parliament called the Central Universities Act of 2009. The Central University of Jammu is one of the 42 Central Universities in India and was inaugurated in 2011. The University is run under the observation of the Department of Higher Education a part of the Human Resource Development Ministry, Government of India. The purpose of the University, its powers, its governance and other activities are also directed in the Central Universities Act of 2009.
The Central University of Jammu craves to be the best University in India, one which offers responsible, high quality, responsive, innovative education to its students. Their goal is to be the ones to enable students equal opportunities, be it at the graduate, undergraduate or postgraduate level, equal opportunities to develop, both, mentally and physically. The University lays stress on the self fulfillment of an individual along with group cohesiveness to achieve a habit of independent and clear thinking in students. It is estimated that the University will be fully functional within the next 2 years. Meanwhile the Central University of Jammu will bring those educational activities to the locals that they can with their given, limited resources. It might still take a while for courses to start in the earnest. In words of the current Vice Chancellor, SS Bloeria, “Whatever may be deficient in the infrastructural and material facilities, we will try to make up with care and concern for the welfare and aspirations of the pioneer group of students.”
