The Central University of Karnataka, is an autonomous, public University of higher education, established by the Government of India in the region of Gulbarga, in the state of Karnataka, India. The Central University of Karnataka has complete territorial jurisdiction over the State of Karnataka, and has been operational from the August 2009. The University is allocated a 650 acre piece of land near the Kadaganchi Suntanur villages, in the taluka of Aland, where construction of the various academic buildings will soon commence. The University currently operates from a temporary campus on the 2nd floor of the Karya Soudha building in the Gulbarga University campus, where its classrooms, computer labs, library and administrative offices are currently located.
The University has various Schools in different fields under which various specific Departments exist. The School of Engineering hosts the departments of Chemical engineering, civil engineering, electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, computer engineering, electronic and communication engineering, biomedical engineering and bioengineering. The School of Chemical sciences and Physical Sciences host the Departments of Chemistry and Departments of Mathematics and that of Physics respectively. Other schools such as School of Social and Behavioral Sciences which runs the departments of history, social work and psychology and the School of Humanities and Languages which runs the English, Hindi, Kannada Literature and Culture, and Classical Language Kannada departments exist for arts students. The University also has a School of Earth Sciences, School of Business Studies and the School of Computer Science with various departments working under them. Each department of every school in the University offers undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate courses.
