The Central University of Kerala, is an institution of higher education located in the state of Kerala, India. The University was established by the Government of India under the Central Universities Act of 2009 in 2009 and is one of the 15 new Central Universities commissioned under the same Act. The CUK is currently located at a temporary campus in Vidyanagar which houses the University Library, Humanities schools, Administrative Office, Computer Centre, University Guest House and the Language Lab. The Science schools of the University are located 35km south of the above mentioned campus at the Riverside Transit Campus. A permanent campus is being prepared for the University on a pristine 310 acre large piece of land near the National Highway.
While the Central University of Kerala is still in its seedling stages, the number of Departments and Schools run by the University are substantial. The Schools located at the main campus include the School of Global Studies which includes the Department of International Relations, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Department of Economics, the Department of Social work and the School of Languages and Comparative Literature encompassing the departments of Hindi, Comparative Literature and Linguistics. The campus at Periye includes the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences which encompasses the Departments of Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and the School of Biological Science which includes the Departments of Animal Science, Genomic Science, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and that of Plant Science. The University also includes a department of Environmental Sciences which is run by the School of Energy Environment and Earth Sciences.
