The Defence Institute of Advanced Technology, formerly known as the Institute of Armament Technology, is an institute that specializes in technical training for the military, and is located in Girinagar, in the district of Pune, Maharashtra, India. The Institute of Armament Studies was established in 1952, and began with a temporary campus inside the campus of the College of Military Engineering at Dapodi. In the year of 1967, the University was rechristened to the Institute of Armament Technology, made into an inter service training place, and shifted to its permanent, current campus in Girinagar. In the 1980’s the institute was affiliated with the University of Pune, which had legitimized eight of the post graduate programs offered at the IAT. In 2006, the IAT was finally awarded the status of a deemed university, and on the 1st of April 2006, was renamed to the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology.
The Defence Institute of Advanced Technology offers various postgraduate courses in the fields of engineering, technology and sciences. Many of the Military Institute of Training students and Officers in the military study PhD and M Tech at the institute. The main courses conducted at the University are, M.Tech in Aerospace Engineering (Guided Missiles or Air Armaments), M.Tech in Cyber security, M.Tech in Electronics Engineering (Radar and communication or Signal Processing), M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (Armaments and Combat Vehicles or Marine), M.Tech in Laser and Electro Optics and M.Tech in Modeling and Simulation.
