The Dr. B.R Ambedkar Open University, also known as the Andhra Pradesh Open University is an open, public University situated in the suburbs of Hyderabad, capital of Andhra Pradesh, India. The University came into existence when it was established in the August of 1982 by the State Government of Andhra Pradesh via an Act of the State Legislature and was inaugurated by the then President of India. The University was renamed from the Andhra Pradesh Open University to Dr. B.R Ambedkar Open University on the 24th of October 1991 in honour of Bhimrao Ambedkar, the Architect of the Indian Constitution. The University has over 120 study centres spread across the twin cities of Secunderabad and Hyderabad and all the other districts in Andhra Pradesh.

The University is located in Jubilee Hills on a piece of land 55 acres large. This campus supports the Grade Building, Support and Administrative Blocks, Library Building, Academic Branch, a large open Plaza, a Study Material House an Auditorium and a Conference Hall. The campus also includes laboratories in Chemistry, Physics, Geology, Zoology and Botany to provide students with hands on training. The University provides courses for Diplomas, Undergraduate programs, Graduate programs as well as Phd programs. Undergraduate courses include BA, B.Sc, B.Com and Bachelor of Hotel Management. Postgraduate programs include M.A in history, political Science, Economics, Public Administration, English, Sociology, Telugu, Urdu and Hindi, M.Sc in Applied Mathematics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Botany, Physics, Environmental Sciences, Psychology and Zoology, MBA and M.Com. Diploma courses are available in various professional and vocational fields to encourage students to pick up useful skills.
