Dr. Y.S.R. Horticultural University, is a public university of agricultural, horticultural studies, research and learning and is located in West Godavari, Andhra Pradesh, India. The university was founded in the year 2007 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and is affiliated with UGC, ICFR and ICAR. It is the second university in India which offers program in Horticulture. The university is the prime production of chillies, mango, papaya, oil palm and sweet oranges.
The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D programs in agriculture, horticulture and forestry. The admission process is done through the common entrance examination conducted by the university. There are about 12 academic department of the university, which includes Fruit Science, Vegetable Science, Floriculture and Landscaping, Spices and Plantation Crops, Post-harvest Technology, Entomology, Plant Pathology, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Agronomy and Soil Science, Physiology, Bio Plant Chemistry and Microbiology, Extension, Economics and Social Sciences and Engineering and Environmental Sciences The four major constituent colleges of university are Horticulture college & research Institute, Venkataramannagudem, college of horticulture, Mojerla, College of horticulture, Hyderabad and Horticulture college & research institute, Anantharaju Pet.
It offers facilities like administrative block, hostel (boys and girls separate as well as international hostel) health centre, free medical facilities, sports club, residential areas for staff members, library, research department, students counselling, canteen, gym, cultural events and etc. The research department of the university is been funded by the national/international agencies and government organizations. The on-going project of research department is crop production, plant pathology and hot pepper.
