The Dravidian University is a public university of higher education, research and learning and is located in Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh. The university was founded in 1997 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. Mr. E.S.L. Narasimhan is the chancellor and Prof K. Rathnaiah is the vice-chancellor of the Dravidian University. The campus of the university occupies land of 1000 acres and is surrounded by the lush, greenery and natural beauty. The campus has its own central library, hostels, computer centre, language laboratory, canteen, student counseling centre, post office, internal quality assurance cell, bank, shopping complex, stadium, multipurpose gym and transport.
The university offers courses in undergraduate, postgraduate, MBA, MCA, M.Phil and Ph.D programs. The admission procedure is done through common entrance test conducted by the university and the selection of the students are based on their performance in the common entrance exam. There are 13 academic departments in the university which includes Dravidian literature and philosophy, folklore and tribal studies, Tamil language and translation studies, Telugu language and translation, herbal sciences, Malayalam language and translation studies, Kannada language and translation studies, Dravidian and computational linguistics, Education, Tulu language and translation studies, history, archaeology and culture and english language and communication.
Apart from the academic departments, university also has 6 schools, which are school of comparative literature and translation studies, school of human and social sciences, school of education and human resources development, school of herbal studies and Natural sciences, school of information science and technology and school of commerce and management.
