Gauhati university is a public university for higher education and learning and is located in North-East, Gauhati, India. It was formed in the year 1948 and it has 239 affiliated colleges in India. The campus of the university is located in Jalukbari, Gauhati. The campus has been formed into a small township known as ‘Gopinath Bardoloi Nagar’. There are almost 5000 students at the campus and about 3000 students live in the hostel provided by the university.
The university is the house of big library, it is the largest library in the Assam, it consist over 850,000 books, magazines, journals and manuscripts. It also possess over 5,000 precious manuscripts, some of them are over 300 years old.
