The Gujarat University is an autonomous, public, State University, located in the city of Ahmedabad, in the State of Gujarat, India. The University was established after the Gujarat University Act of the Government of Gujarat in the year of 1949. The University initially was known as the Ahmedabad Education Society but has today evolved into the largest University in the state of Gujarat. The University has affiliate colleges for undergraduate students, while the University directly teaches the post graduate level courses. Over 200000 students have enrolled in the University which has more than 370 colleges, 20 recognized institutions and 35 approved institutions under its wing.
The Gujarat University campus sprawls over 250 acres of land in Navrangpura, near Ahmedabad. Most of the colleges affiliated with the University are spread around Ahmedabad district, Kheda district and Ahmedabad city. Since the March of 2012, the University has been running its own radio station called GURU, which is the first such event in the state, and fifth overall in India. The University has various schools under which departments thrive. The main schools in the Gujarat University are the School of Law, School of Commerce, School of Languages, School of Sciences, School of Philosophy Education and Psychology, School of Social Sciences among others. The University has good faculties for Law, Education, Commerce, Science, Arts, Dental, Computer Applications and Physical Education. The University also offer the Doctor of Medicine and the Doctor of Philosophy course. Overall, the University offers postgraduate courses, undergraduate courses, diploma courses, certificate courses and various study abroad programmes. The University also has specific programs for non resident Indian students.
