Indian Institute of Management - IIM Kashipur, Kashipur, Uttarakhand

The Indian Institute of Management Kashipur also called IIM Kashipur is an autonomous business school, located in the district of Kashipur in the state of Uttarakhand India. It is the newest addition to the now 13 existing IIMs in the country, 7 of which were set up after the Eleventh five year plan of 2007. The foundation stone for IIM Kashipur was lain on the 29th of April 2011 by the then Human Resource Development minister, Kapil Sibal. The current chairman at the Indian Institute of Management Kashipur is Dhruv M Sawhney while the director is Mr. Gautam Sinha.

IIM Kashipur currently does not have its own campus, but is operating from a temporary campus located at Ganna Sansthan on Bazpur Road. The area for a permanent campus has already been allocated in the Escorts Farm area near Kashipur by the Government of Uttarakhand. The first batch of students in 2011 were invited for admissions through IIM Lucknow, mentor to IIM Kashipur, but the next 2012 batch was inducted directly on the 2nd July 2012.

The admission procedure for all the IIMs are the same. To find a seat in the Postgraduate Programme offered by the Indian Institute of Management Kashipur, one must first get through the CAT exams, also called the Common Admission Test. Currently IIM Kashipur offers its flagship program, the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) exclusively, although new courses are on their way. The PGPM programme takes place over 2 years, spread out over 6 trimesters, including a summer internship which takes place after the third trimester.

Despite its youth, IIM Kashipur hosts various clubs and many events throughout the year. The Financial club is a club that engages with the students in various information sessions, innovative activities and various events regularly. The Marketing Club, also called the OnYourMark focuses on the honing the skills and empowering the marketing geniuses to innovate and effectively market in the industry. The Quiz Club focuses on various challenging quizzes, whether business or otherwise, to sharpen minds while adding fun to the mood. The Consulting Club actively seeks to build development plans and solutions for improving business results by actively studying real time business cases. Finally the Social Responsibility Forum works on the social issues around the Kashipur area, which also help management students gain perspective on the conditions at the bottom of the pyramid. Other than the aforementioned clubs, IIM Kashipur holds various events such as the Samanvaya, an annual HR meeting held to contemplate and deliberate on contemporary issues in Human Resources and the challenges faced by the country in this field. The Manthan is another event that takes place annually at IIM Kashipur and in its recent incarnation saw the discussion of the theme “Global Economic Crisis and its effect on India”. Finally, the cultural event called Alankar is held every year and includes demonstrations of classical dances and various forms of music.

The current board of governors of IIM Kashipur include the Government of Uttarakhand, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd, Member National Advisory Council, Deep Joshi, Subhash Kumar, Subodh Bhargava, Tata Communications Ltd., Ministry of HRD, Government of India, Ashok Thakur among others.
