The Indian Institute of Management Lucknow, or IIM-L as its popularly known, is a public business school, autonomously run, and located in Lucknow in UP. This IIM was established in the year of 1984, and was the fourth ever IIM established by the Government of India. IIM-Lucknow offers fellowship, as well as executive management programs, along with the regular post graduate diploma. Initially, after its establishment in 1984, the IIM campus was nothing but small rented rooms at the Butler Palace, which was then eventually moved to the Giri Institute. It was only in 1992 that the IIM was moved to its current location on the outskirts of Lucknow.
The campus of IIM Lucknow is located in Prabandh Nagar, about 21 kms from the Lucknow Railway station, and 31 kms from the Airport. The campus itself is a huge sprawling area of over 200 acres. The entire architecture of the academic buildings in the IIM are like that of medieval India, with red brick walls. All the buildings are named in Sanskrit, signifying the activity that is carried out within those walls. The library or Gyanodaya spans over 30,000 sqft, with over 5 reading halls and a capacity to house 250 readers at a time. Over 40,000 books, 1600 e-journals, 500 periodicals, 30 e-databases can be accessed by the students.
The IIM is fully residential, and as such all housing needs are provided to the students, researchers and the faculty. The campus has various fields for recreational activities such as Football, Basketball, Tennis, Cricket and Badminton. Most of the hostels on the campus have their own badminton court and table tennis tables. A Fitness Centre was set up in 2010 which houses a fully fledged gymnasium, squash court, swimming pool and billiards. The health care system on the campus is also top notch, with visiting doctors that are available 24/7. The student activity complex on the campus takes care of the shopping needs of the students, with a multiple banks, travel agencies, supermarket, a coffee shop, medical store etc.
Admission to IIM-Lucknow happens through the Common Admission Test exam, which is conducted jointly for all the IIM’s once a year. IIM Lucknow offer the PGP (Post graduate Programme in Management) along with PGPAMB (Post Graduate Programme in Agribusniess Management). Both these programs last for 2 years. Other than those above, IIM Lucknow offer various other courses from, Working Managers Programme, International Programme in Management for Executives, to Fellow Programmes in Management targeting a wide range of students, from experienced professionals to engineering freshers. For its stellar professional training, IIM Lucknow has consistently ranked in the top 5 B-Schools in India.
