Indian Institute of Management - IIM Rohtak, Rohtak, Haryana

The Indian Institute of Management Rohtak, or IIM-R, is an autonomous, public, business school, established by the Government of India in Rohtak, Haryana. The institute was established in 2009 and was the eighth IIM to be established. The 11th Five year plan had laid the groundwork for establishing 7 new IIMs in India. The goal was the create highly trained and competent manpower which can compete at an International level. IIM Rohtak was approved on the 27th of August 2009 by the Union Cabinet. As the Institute is still in its formative stage, IIM Lucknow currently mentors the Institute.

IIM Rohtak started normal functions on the 30th of June 2010. The inauguration took place at the hands of the Vice Chairman of Tata Motors, Mr. Ravi Kant. The initial batch strength at IIM R was just 48 students, but has since increased in 2012 to 120-130 students. A permanent campus of 200 acres has been sanctioned, and is currently under construction at Sunaria, a location close to Rohtak city. The total budget allocated for the campus development by the Government of India exceed Rs 2.5 billion. The foundation stone for the Institute was laid down on the 1st of October 2010.

Currently, IIM Rohtak operates from its temporary campus in Maharishi Dayanand University in Rohtak. Classrooms have been established in a newly constructed, fully furnished, humanities block for the IIM to carry out its operations from. Currently IIM Rohtak offers just 3 academic courses. The Post Graduate Programme in Management is the flagship course at IIM-R, the equivalent of an MBA. The Fellow Programme Management is a Doctoral programme which aims at creating high quality teachers, researchers and other academicians for business organizations, in India and abroad. Finally, IIM-R offers the Management Development Programmes, which are also known as the Short duration Skill Development Program, for experienced business executives, which far too little time to attend long term courses. Specializations are offered in Human Resource Management, Operations, Finance and Accounting, Strategic Management, Business Environment etc.

IIM Rohtak, despite being relatively new, organises various events throughout the year. The first annual Management meeting, called “Mission India”, was organized on the 30th of October in 2011. Infusion is another event that happens annual at IIM-R. It is a cultural-sports event, with acts such as the one by stand up comedian Nitin Gupta, or the band Aagman entertaining the crowds. IIM-R also successfully organized a marathon in 2012, a tribute to women called, “India for Girl Child”. Over 2000 people participated in the event. Additionally IIM-R also holds an annual Management Conclave as well as an HR summit.
