The Indian Institute of Management Shillong, or IIM-S, is a business school established in Shillong, Meghalaya, by the Government of India in 2008. The IIM-S is the seventh IIM to be established. The establishment of the IIM follows the Indian Government policy of setting up IIMs and Central Universities in smaller and less developed cities. After a long drawn argument between who the host for the new IIM should be, it was decided that Meghalaya and not Assam, would be the first State in the North-East to host an IIM. The government of Meghalaya has currently allocated 120 acres for the development and construction of a permanent campus near Shillong.

The Logo of IIM Shillong portrays the sky, the mountains and imageries from nature. This shining sun and its spreading rays is to give a feeling of light and progress. The curves within yellow in the circle look like a mountain, just like the area on which the IIM is located. The linear lines near the bottom signify that energy can be channelized, analogically speaking of the students focussing their skills.

IIM Shillong currently runs from its temporary campus in Mayurbhanj Complex, this includes its administrative office, library, faculty office, classrooms and the conference halls. Other than the above, the Institute also has access to a guesthouse, auditorium, and a few syndicate rooms. Student dormitories also lie within the campus. The permanent campus currently under construction, will eventually house a state of the art residential as well as academic campus, with various facilities such as auditorium, sports complex, swimming pool, golf course, market complex etc. All building will be build to meet the best practices in ecologically sustainable construction, which ensures efficient use of water, energy and other resources in the future.

IIM Shillong, like other IIMs offers a 2 year PGP in Management, which is a full time residential programme, along with the PGP-Ex in International Business for executives with a lot of professional work experience. Additionally the Fellow Programme in Management and Management Development Programmes in various streams of management such as Finance, Education Management, General Management, Marketing, Strategic Management are are undertaken. The IIM is also in partnership with the National Stock Exchange with the intention of carrying out a full time 2 year Post Graduate Programme in financial markets.

The student life at IIM Shillong is exciting. There are several student run committees and clubs on campus including the Cultural Committee, the IT Committee, the Public Relations Cell etc. Events such as the E-Summit which brings together budding entrepreneurs, the Golf Cup, the SusCon, a conference on International Sustainability and the Podium and annual guest lecturers series are held throughout the year. Although the college is only 4 years old, it has already secured honours as the 8th best B-School in the country by Business World in June 2012.
