The Indian Institute of Science, abbreviated as IISc, is a public institute of higher education, learning and research and is located in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. The university was formed in the year 1909 by the Government of India and is affiliated by UGC. Mr. P.Balaram is the director of the university. The campus of IISc is based in north Bangalore and is around 4 km from the railway station of the city and about 35 km from the Bangalore International Airport. The campus occupies the land of 400 acres and located in the middle of the Bangalore city.
There are 40 academic department of the IISc which includes the Tala Marg, Gulmohar Marg, the Arjuna Marg, the Mahogany Marg, the Nilgiri Marg, the Badami Marg, the Silver Oak Marg and the Amra Marg. The faculty of engineering has spilt into 2 section, division of mechanical sciences and division of electrical sciences.
