Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, also known as IIT Delhi or IIT-D, is an institute of public engineering, situated in Delhi, India. The IIT-D was established in 1961 by Government of India, Dr. Vijay Bhatkar is the chairman of IIT-D.

The campus of IIT-D is spread out in 325 acres located in Hauz Khas, South Delhi. The area of campus is surrounded with beautiful monuments like, Lotus Temple, qutub Minar, Jawaharlal Nehru University, ALL India Institute of MEdical Science, National Institute of Fashion Technology, National Council of Education REsearch and Training, Indian Statistical Institute and other beautiful sights. The campus has its own garden, residential complexes, lawn, road, water supply, backup electricity supply, shopping complexes which makes the campus feel like a city.

IIT-D ranked 22nd internationally in QS World University Ranking in the year 2012 and it ranked 38th in QS Asian Ranking in 2013. Whereas it holds the position of number one in India today and Outlook India ranking 2013.

The campus is divided into four zone, faculty and staff residential zone, academic zone, student residential zone and student recreational area. IIT-D has 13 hostels, eleven hostel is allocated to boys and two for girls.

Like any other IIT Institute, IIT-D admission process is also through IIT-JEE, students can apply for the exam after completing their 10+2 schooling. IIT-D offers B.Tech program in technology and it also offers Bachelor-cum-master degree in technology program and postgraduate programs like masters in technology, science, research, business administration and industrial design. The Ph.D programs of IIT-D is research in basic science like, biological sciences, chemical science, physical sciences and interdisciplinary program like nanoscience and nanotechnology, bioengineering and biomedical science. The academic year is divided into two semesters, but they also have summer semester programs for few courses.

Postgraduate programs of IIT-D are M.tech, MBA, M.Des, M.S. M.Sc, the courses are conducted under various centers and departments. The admission process for these courses are through GATE entrance exam (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering). Students who pass these exams with good marks are called for personal interview. M.sc admission process is through JAM (Joint Admission test for Msc).

IIT-D has 11 interdisciplinary centers which includes Computer services center, national resource center for value education in engineering, instrument design development centre, education technology services centre, centre for applied research in electronics, centre for atmospheric sciences, industrial tribology, machine dynamics and maintenance engineering, centre for natural resources and environment, centre for polymer science and engineering, centre for biomedical engineering, centre of energy studies.
