Indira Kala Sangeet University is a public university for higher education and learning, which is located in Khairagarh, Chhattisgarh, India. It was established in the year of 1965 and Mr. Mandvi Singh is the vice-chancellor of the Indira Kala Sangeet University. Earlier, in 1956 the king Birendra Bahadur Singh and his wife Padamavati Devi, gifted their palace to government to open a university of music, arts and dance. The Indira Kala Sangeet University is named after the king and queen’s late daughter Indira Devi and is operated by the government of Madhya Pradesh till it was established in Chhattisgarh.
The university owns large library which is house of 40,000 books and large variety of audiotapes, Cds, videos of famous painters and their paintings. There are also listening facilities available for students as well as huge collection of contemporary paintings of famous painters of India from different regions. Additionally, University also has a small gallery of musical-instrument and it contains massive collections of classical and folk musical instruments. The university is also a pride owner of mini archaeological museum, which stores regional archaeological art and documentation. Apart from these, university also have hostel facilities which is divided into two part, for boys and for girls and the residential facilities are also available for foreign students and the academic sessionis are operated into English for overseas students. The academic departments of university is divided into five sections which are Department of Music, Department of Dance, Department of Visual Arts, Department of Folk Music, Department of Arts.
