The Jamia Millia Islamia, translated to the National Islamic University, is an autonomous public Central University based in the capital city of India, New Delhi. The University was initially established in Aligarh, United Provinces, British India in the year of 1920. The University was converted to a Central University in the year of 1988 by an Act of the Indian Parliament. The University was established by prior to the partition of India by nationalist Muslim Leaders. In the year of 2006 the King of Saudi Arabia visited the University and donated the generous sum of 30 million US dollars to help construct a library in the University.
The University has had some notable Alumni in the course of the years, these include, Virender Sehwag, Shah Rukh Khan, Barkha Dutt, Kiran Rao, Danish Aslam, Anjana Om Kashyap, Roshan Abbas, Muzammil Ibrahim, Habib Faisal and Mohammad Hossein Adeli. The University offers research and academic programs using the following faculties, the Faculty of Humanities and Languages, the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, the AJK Mass Communication Research Centre, FTK Centre for Information Technology, Dr Zakir Husain Institute of Islamic Studies, the Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar Academy of Third World Studies, Academic Staff College, Centre for Coaching and Career Planning, Centre for Gandhian Studies, Centre for Theoretical Physics, the Barkat Ali Firaq State Resource Centre, the Centre for Jawaharlal Nehru Studies and the Centre for Management studies among others. The Faculty of Engineering and Technology offers various PhD, B.Tech, M.Tech and M.Tech (PT) courses in different fields of Engineering.
