The Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University is an institute of higher learning in the fields of architecture and fine arts, established in the former Nizam state of Hyderabad in the year of 1940. The college, over the years grew in reputation by rendering exquisite service and stimulating creativity among painters, photographers, sculptors, animators and commercial artists and gradually growing into the Goverment College of Arts and Architecture managed by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, Department of Technical Education, Hyderabad. The College was merged with the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in the month of October of 1972. This University was further bifurcated into four distinct universities, namely, JNTU Kakinada, JNTU Anantapur, JNTU Kukatpally and JNTU Hyderabad by the Andhra Pradesh state Legislature Act number 31 of the year 2008. The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University has been a constituent college of the new Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University, Hyderabad from the year 2009.
The University offers various courses specializing in Fine arts and Architecture namely the Bachelor of Architecture in the fields of Interior Design, Architecture and Landscape Design and the Master of Architecture in Construction Management and Interior Design. The University also has a School of Planning and Architecture. This school aims at encouraging intellectual enterprises in Arts and Architecture through its faculties of research, education, consultancy and training and a commitment to excel and to become one of the best resource centres in Asia in the fields of Architecture. The University also has a massive library with over 11,500 books, 1000+ periodicals, more than 1500 DVDs and CDs along with 1000s of design thesis and other web resources. The University also plans to provide a free for all access to this library to everyone.
