The Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University also called KKHSOU, is an open state University located in the city of Guwahati, state of Assam, India. The University was established under the Act of 2005 called the Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University Act, by the state Government of Assam and is recognized by the DEC (Distance Education Council), New Delhi. It is the 14th Open University to be established in India, and is the only Open University in the entire North East region of India. The Housefed Complex at Last Gate in Dispur region of Guwahati houses the administrative headquarters of the University. The Main goal of the University is to provide and develop easy access to quality education through the Distance and Open learning method and hence the motto of the University stands as “Education Beyond Barriers.”

The University offers various programs for degree, graduate, undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. The University also offers multiple diploma and certificate programs as add ons for students already pursuing their education through other means. The University has been offering bachelors programs since the year 2008 which currently include the BCA course, Bachelor of Business Administration, B.A and Bachelor of Mass Communication. The undergraduate diploma courses of the University include Assamese Journalism, Journalism and Mass Communication, Hotel Management, Tourism Management, Computer Hardware Networking and Creative writing. The University also offer Master programs in Business Administration, Mass communication, Humanities and Social Sciences along with Pd.D in Social Sciences and Humanities for students seeking higher education. Various courses in vocational areas such as Mobile Phone Repairing, Scientific Piggery Farming, Scientific Duck Farming etc. are also offered by the University.
