The KSGH Music and Performing Arts University, or the Karnataka State Gangubhai Hangal Music and Performing arts University, also referred to as the Karnataka State Music University is a public university, dedicated exclusively to studying and performing research in the fields of Performing Arts and Music. The University was established by the State Government of Karnataka, by constituting the Karnataka State Dr Gangubhai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University Act of 2009, on the 14th of February on 2008. The chancellor of the University is the Governor of Karnataka while the vice Chancellor is Dr Hanumannanayaka Dorai.
The University has two different system, one the modern system and the other the ancient gurukula system. This method is implemented as the gurukula system will help upcoming artists and musicians train with personal attention, while the modern system will enable the students to carry legit academic qualifications. Both residential and non residential courses are offered at the University. The University classes will take place between the 6 AM early morning to 9 AM and then 4 PM in the evening to 8 PM at night. Various forms of music, such as carnatic, hindustani, light, folk, western, cinema etc., along with various forms of dance such as odissi, bharatanatyam, kathak will be offered at the University. The University will eventually expand its student base by offering courses online. A focus on publication and research in various fields of music and performing arts is also a priority at the University.
