The Maharshi Dayanand University is an autonomous, public University located in the city of Rohtak, state of Haryana, India. The University is an “A” Grade State University and has been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. The University was established in the year of 1976 as the Rohtak University after the Act No 25 of 1975, was passed by the Haryana Legislative Assembly in the year of 1976. The University was renamed from the Rohtak University to The Maharshi Dayanand University in the year of 1977 and was given the power to affiliate other colleges in the November of 1978.
The University has various research and educational programmes that its 36 departments offer. The campus of the University has 10 buildings exclusively for instructional purposes, 10 hostels, the massive Vivekananda Library including its 6 branches, a modern auditorium, a health centre, an activity centre, a printing press, the faculty house, a swimming pool, a sports stadium, a community centre, cafeteria, an administration building and a shopping complex. The entire campus is WiFi enabled with a grand 1GBps connection. The various faculties of the Universities which oversee the departments include, the Faculty of Commerce, Faculty of Engineering and technology, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Life sciences, Faculty of Performing and Visual Arts, Faculty of Management Sciences, Faculty of Physical Science, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science, Faculty of Social Science, University Hotel Management and Tourism Department and the Faculty of Medicine. The University also organizes 6 zonal festivals and a grand inter zonal festival, with over 40 events in dance, theatre, music, fine arts, culture and literary fields for the students. The University also happens to have a holiday home.
