National Institute of Technology - NIT Patna, Patna, Bihar

The National Institute of Technology Patna, also known as NITP, is a Public Institute of Engineering and Technology, located in Patna, India. Earlier it was named as Bihar School of Engineering and Bihar College of Engineering, it was converted into National Institute of India by the Government of India on 28th January, 2004.

The campus occupies land of 40 acres and offers facilities like computer labs, library and computer center. The academic departments of NIT-Patna includes department of architecture, department of civil engineering, department of computer science and engineering, department of electronics and communication engineering, department of electrical engineering, department of information technology and department of mechanical engineering. The library contain over 50,000 books and over 1,100 journals. Library’s ground floor is e-resource section and first floor has section for study material and second floor have computer books. The computer centre has multiple computer labs along with computing audio-visual facilities like interactive boards, projectors and many more.

Department of civil engineering offers programs like sphere of civil engineering and postgraduate programs such as water resource engineering, transportation engineering and structural engineering as well as doctoral programs. The department of architecture offers 5 year program in B.Arch which includes visual arts, design, climatology, visual arts, architectural design, architectural graphics and architectural acoustics. Department of computer science and engineering includes data structure, system programming, analysis of algorithms, computer networks, data mining and warehousing, mobile and wireless computing, parallel computing, genetic algorithm, real-time systems, cryptography and artificial intelligence. Department of information technology offers B.Tech which includes web technology, mobile and communication, database system, information security, operating system, visual programing, data mining and warehousing, web services, XML, multimedia technology and application and intrusion detection. Department of mechanical engineering offers undergraduate program which includes fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid machinery, design of machine elements, IC engineering and gas tribune, manufacturing by shaping and joining, refrigeration, air conditioning, thermal turbomachinery and heat transfer.

The admission mode for undergraduate program of NITP is through AIEEE(main) and for postgraduate programs is through GATE. NIT-P has various cultural festivals to enhance students skills and personalities. Melange and corona are two major annual festival of NIT-P and students from all over the country take part in this festival. Additionally, every year in the month of January, NIT Patna organize outdoor and indoor sports week. This sports event includes cricket, table tennis, badminton, carom, football and discus throw. This event is managed by students only.
