The National Institute of Technology Warangal, also known as NIT-Warangal or NITW, is a public institute of engineering and technology, located in Warangal, Andhra Pradesh, India. NIT-W was established in 1959 by the Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Earlier, it used to be known as Regional Engineering College, Warangal (RECW), later in September 2002, it was renamed as National Institute of Technology , Warangal with the status of Deemed University. The National Institute of Technology Warangal was affiliated from Jawaharlal Nehru Technology University but in the year 1976 the affiliation was changed to Kakatiya University.
The campus occupies 256 acres of land and located about 148 km from the Hyderabad City. The campus possess administrative building, academic buildings, library building, students hostels, sports pavilion and gallery, director’s bungalow, staff quarters and guest house. The academic departments of NIT-W includes Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Biotechnology Mathematics, Physics (Photonics and Electronics ), Chemistry, Humanities and Social Sciences and School of Management.
NIT-W offers undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D programs. The admission process for undergraduate programs is through All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), however due to new rules, from 2013 onwards the examination will be done through JEE-MAIN. The examination is conducted in three sections which includes Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics. Students can take this exam after completing their 10+2 schooling with score of 40%. The admission process for postgraduate program is through GATE, (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) organised by the Indian Institute of Technology and Indian Institute of Science. For MBA programs the admission mode is through CAT or MAT and NIMCET for MCA programs. Students applying for M.Sc or M.Sc.(Tech.) programs will have to go through NITWET examinations. The selected students will have to undergo through Personal interviews and group discussions. NIT-W offer Ph.D programs for all academic departments, the admission for Ph.D happens twice, first one in the month of July and the second one in December.
NIT-W has wonderful placement rate and companies like Microsoft, Facebook, Epic Systems, Google, DE Shaw, Flipkart, Yahoo!, Goldman Sachs, Directi, Deloitte, Schlumberger, Oracle Corporation, EA Sports, Halliburton, ITC Limited, Hindustan Unilever, Amazon.com, PepsiCo, Godrej Industries, etc participate in the placement sessions. Like any other NITs even NIT-W have annual festivals which includes Technozion (technical festival), Cura (management festival) and Spring Spree (cultural festival).
