Nava Nalanda Mahavihara is a public university for higher education and learning and is located in Nalanda, Bihar, India. It was established in 1951 as Magadh Institute of Postgraduate learning. Later one it was renamed as Nava Nalanda Mahavihara.
Nava Nalanda Mahavihara offers certificate course in Pali, Diploma courses in Pali, B.A. (Hons.) course in Pali, M.A. course in Pali, M.A course in Philosophy, M.A. course in Ancient history, culture and archaeology, M.A course course in Buddhist studies, M.A. courses in Sanskrit, M.A. courses in Hindi, M.A, courses in English, M.A. courses in Tibetan Studies, M.A, courses in Buddhism and languages, Preparatory courses in tibetan studies and research programme. The university also plan to open courses in Vipassana and Buddhist Studies (Applied Buddhism), a one year research methodology course, language courses in Thai, Singhalese, Mongolian, Burmese, Vietnamese, and Cambodian. The admission process for the programs are through entrance test conducted by the Mahavihara.
The university offers hostel for students and residential departments for staff and faculty. The hostel has been divided in two sections, girls and boys and two hostels are reserved for monk students. Apart from these the university also offers benefits like medical supplies, kitchen and dining area, electricity, purified water and many more facilities are also available. The institute also offers merit scholarships for deserving candidates. Additionally, there are various extra-curricular activities organised by the institute for students, such as sports, water sports, elocution and debate and musical events.
