North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology, abbreviated as NERIST, is a public university of higher education, research and learning and is located in Nirju, Papum Pare, Arunachal Pradesh, India. It was formed in the year 1984 by the Government of India. The university is funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The university has about 1359 students and around 130 staff members at the campus. The campus is spread out in the area of 500 acres. The campus has around 8 hostels which has capacity of over 1500 students. The campus also have the facility of staff quarter, guest houses, temple, church, namghar and bank, medical, hospital, hostel (separate for boys and girls) wi-fi connection, library, computer labs, science labs and so on.
The university offers degrees in undergraduate, postgraduate, MBA, Ph.D programs. Additionally, NERIST offers program in Agricultural Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Forestry and Life Sciences, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Management Studies and Physics. NERIST also has two learning centers for core engineering and applied science disciplines which includes centre of appropriate technology and rural development and centre of management studies. The admission process for these courses are through the NERIST Entrance Exam (NEE) conducted by NERIST university only. The selection of students are decided on the basis of their performance in the NEE which is followed by personal interview and group discussions.
NERIST also organise various recreational activities for its students. Sonabyss is one of the NERIST’s cultural festival which is organised every year in october and there are plenty of students across India participates in the event.
