North Maharashtra University that was established on the 15th of August 1990 was originally a part of the University of Pune. The University is situated in the town of Jalgaon, in the state of Maharashtra, India. The campus is over 1.6sqkm or 400 acres, and is situated next to the banks of the river Girna. In recent times, major plantation efforts have been undertaken, to help maintain ecological balance, keep a green environment and to enrich the ambience and the natural beauty of the University campus. The North Maharashtra University has been accredited with a 4 Star Status by NAAC in 2001.
The North Maharashtra University plays host to various schools and departments dedicated to specializations in various fields. The various schools include the School of Physical Sciences, School of Life Sciences, School of Environmental Sciences, School of Chemical Sciences, School of Social Science and the School of Mathematical Sciences. The various departments in the University are the University Department of Chemical Technology, Department of Management Studies, Department of Computer Science, Department of Information Technology, Department of Library and Information Science, Department of Education, Department of Law, Department of Organic Chemistry, Pratap Philosophy Centre etc.
The Central Library, which is currently under construction, is steadily progressing toward being fully operational. The library has 6 floors, and contains over 50,000 books. More than 500 magazines are subscribed to and are available to students in the reading section of the library.
