The Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology is a University of higher education in Agriculture technology and related fields, and is situated in Meerut, the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. The University was established on the 2nd of October 2000 by the State Government of Uttar Pradesh under the 1958 Act called the Uttar Pradesh Agriculture University Act. The University was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh on the 28th of March 2002. The University is listed under the University Grants Commission, Government of India, for its funding needs.
The Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology is entrusted by the Government of Uttar Pradesh to bring around all around development of the rural and agricultural community in four divisions, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Meerut and Bareilly. These divisions include the districts of Muzaffarnagar, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Meerut, Saharanpur, Ghaziabad, Baghpat, Bulandshahr, Bijnor, Moradabad, Bareilly, Rampur, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Badaun and Jyotiba Phule Nagar. Three agro climate zones, of the nine agro climate zones in Uttar Pradesh, are administered by this University. The Tarai Zone, where lentil, mustard and rapeseeds, potatoes, cole crops, cucurbits, vegetable peas, papaya, litchi, mango, guava are the standard crops, the Western Plan Zone which favours the growth of rice, wheat, sugarcane, grape, guava onion etc. and the Mid Western Plain Zone which strives on crops like bahara, sorghum, singhara, gram, black gram, pigeon pea etc.
The entire University is located on a 650 acre piece of land of which 100 acres or so are exclusively maintained for crop research. The University has various Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctorate programmes in the field of Agriculture.
