The School of Planning and Architecture also called SPA Delhi, is an autonomous institute of higher education located in the capital city of India, New Delhi. The University specializes itself in the fields of Architecture and Planning. The other two sister SPA Universities in India include the School of Planning and Architecture Vijayawada and the School of Planning and Architecture Bhopal. The University was inaugurated on the 29th of February 1941 and was initially a Department of Architecture in the Delhi Technological University. It was merged in the year of 1959 with the School of Town and Country Planning. The University received its deemed University status in the year of 1979.
The current campus of the School of Planning and Architecture Delhi is located in the Indraprastha Estate in the capital city of New Delhi. The University hostels and the residential campuses are located in Maharani Bagh, New Friends Colony, New Delhi. The University has a good library which houses an invaluable collection of books numbering over 66000, which took over 50 years to gather. The library is specialized in dealing with planning, design and architecture fields along with other fields that are related. The libraries are noted for their comprehensive collection of various Seminar Reports, Thesis Reports, Dissertation Reports and Various Technical Reports. The University offers undergraduate courses, including the Bachelor of Architecture a 5 year course and the Bachelor of Planning a 4 year course. The postgraduate programmes include Masters degrees in the above mentioned fields along with various Pd.D programmes to continue higher education after them.
