The National Law Institute University is a center for research and a law school, located in the capital of the State of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal. It was founded in 1997 by the State Government of Madhya Pradesh. It is the first of the three law school established in India under the system of National Law School. Ever since it was established, the National Law Institute University has rated in the top three law schools in the country.
The National Law Institute University is a recognized institute by the Bar Council of India and admits over 100 students for its undergraduate course every year. The entrance exams are conducted via the Common Law Admission test and students that pass are rewarded with admissions. A student, on admission, has to complete 15 trimesters, after which he is awarded the BA, LL.B degree. The University also offers a postgraduate course called the LL.M degree. Modern methods of evaluation and teaching are employed by the University to optimize teaching. Each year is divided sets of 70 working days, organized in 3 trimesters. Modern audio-visual equipment, computorials, small group sessions, simulation etc, are made available to students for optimal growth.
The campus of the National Law Institute University is located in the city of Bhopal, Kerwa Dam Rd, near the side of a cozy looking hillock near the lake of Kerwa. The University has taken every measure to minimize the environmental impact of the construction of a campus to ensure a natural look with a blend of modern architecture with conventional natural styles. The main buildings include the Auditorium, the Gyan Mandir, the Computer lab, Faculty rooms, classrooms etc. The University also has various sports complexes with facilities for badminton, pool, tennis, table tennis, football, volleyball and basketball.
